An achievement to remember for the Memory Assessment Service Torfaen
Memory Assessment Service Torfaen has been awarded the Carer Friendly Advanced Accreditation: demonstrating a true commitment to supporting carers of people living with dementia in Torfaen.
Memory Assessment Service Torfaen is a specialist memory service and is part of the Aneurin Bevan University Health Board Older Adult Mental Health provision. They offer excellent support, pre and post diagnosis, to both the person with memory concerns and their carers. The team run a course for carers covering: living well with dementia, medical treatments, managing medication and the local support available for people with dementia and their carers. The team also have strong links with a range of health and social care services that support carers, including working partnership with Carers Trust South East Wales to run a regular ‘Carers Café’ alongside their clinics.
The accreditation review panel (made up of carers and professionals from across Gwent) were particularly impressed by the implementation of the carers course, the support the team provide to bereaved carers and the availability of a carers room and loan equipment for carers within the service. The panel felt that the team are demonstrating a lot of excellent practice, showing a strong commitment to both carers and people with dementia.
