The lockdown saw two determined ladies roll up their sleeves to support the community of Risca.
Tara and Dawn set up RCVUK during the height of the pandemic in response to the immediate needs of vulnerable members of their community. Since then the RCVUK service has grown and grown and expanded the support that they offer. Working out of the Channel View Community Center the RCVUK team provide a school uniform recycle shop, emergency food parcels, digitally inclusive workshops and training, wellbeing afternoon teas, children’s activities and competitions and a whole lot more! They soon realised that many people within their community are unpaid carers and decided to undertake the Carer Friendly accreditation in order to improve their understanding, recognition and support for unpaid carers. The review panel were blown away by the work that the Team have undertaken to ensure that this happens. The processes that they have put in place and the support that they have provided unpaid carers to date has be robust and holistic and the panel commented that they are demonstrating ‘best practice’ carer support.
